How Can We Help You?

Frequently Asked Questions

GET STARTED JUMPING

What is the best jump rope for beginners?

Here are the questions that we want you to ask yourself when determining which jump rope you should get started with:

What workouts are you doing?
Do you have a current rope or use one at their gym?
Can you do double unders?
Is that something you are interested in mastering?
How tall are you?
Are you looking for heavy weight ropes or thin ones for speed?

Any beginner recommendation: We always recommend our Original Rx jump rope and the Buff 3.4 cable weight. The specific reason is because the weight of the Buff 3.4 is not too heavy, and will allow the user to feel where the cable is while swinging it. It’s much easier to start with a cable that has weight on it so you can understand the rhythm and feel the timing of the rope. A super light cable can get lost around your body while swinging, and the Buff provides feedback so that doesn’t happen.

What is the perfect beginner fitness jump rope workout routine?

Using the appropriate jump rope in the beginning of your journey is key to building a solid foundation and enjoying a positive fitness experience.

How many calories do I burn by jumping rope?

The exact number would be determined by your weight and how fast you skip, but you can expect to shed between 240 and 300 calories on average. (source)

Which are the best Double Under Jump Ropes?

The best rope depends on your skill level and what stimulus you're after. We advocate "train heavy, compete light", meaning, challenge yourself and use a rope with a bit of weight to it! Our buff cable is a great place to start, which you can find on an Original Rx and Rapid Fit jump rope!

How to do double unders?

Which muscles does jumping rope workout?

The better question is which muscles doesn't jumping rope workout! Jumping rope is a full body exercise. It primarily works your calf muscles, quads, shoulders and forearms but you are also working your hamstrings, glutes, abs, oblique muscles, biceps, triceps, back muscles, and chest muscles.

What are the benefits of a weighted jump rope?

Jumping roping improves cardio respiratory system, strengthens the heart, improves bone density, tone muscles, burn calories and fat and improves agility and coordination.

How often should I jump rope?

The beauty of a weighted jump rope is that it offers more feedback to the user. A weighted cable forces you to slow down and understand the movement, whether you are practicing single unders, side swings, double unders, or any other trick. We here at Rx Smart Gear, are advocates for people training heavy and competing light, and are big proponents of people training with our “buff” cable which weighs in at 3.4oz. We find that our buff cable offers enough feedback to dial in form, while not too much that it taxes out your shoulders and core.

Everything you know and love about jump rope, from testing your agility, coordination to burning extra calories will be taken to the next level with a weighted jump rope.

How to care for your new RX Jump Rope?

Congratulations! You have just purchased your New Rx Jump Rope and you're ready to RX your double unders.

But before we get into the techniques in mastering the double under, let’s start by discussing the proper maintenance of your new rope.   We want your jump ropes to last, so here are four basic tips that will help your jump rope to have a long and healthy life.

Care for your New RX Jump Rope

  1. For optimum performance and to extend the life of your Rx Jump Rope, avoid using on concrete, asphalt, dirt, gravel or any other abrasive surface. Ideal surfaces are gymnasium floors, rubber coated/ matted floors, or PVC matting. We also suggest the Rx Jumping Mat
  2. Inspect your cable rope for tears in the covering.</strong> If any tears are noticed or wire cable is exposed, cease use immediately.
  3. Save the plastic cable ties that came with your Rx Jump Rope and after each use, wrap your Rx Jump Rope in a 6-8 inch diameter circle and clip twist ties to secure your rope. (as shown in the picture)
  4. NEVER bend, kink, or tie your Rx Jump Rope in a knot. Doing so will drastically reduce its efficiency and lifespan.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:How to Store your Rx Jump Rope Properly: The best way to store your Rx rope is to leave one handle on the ground and roll it up like a garden hose. A 6 to 7 inch diameter is the recommended size roll. Your Rx handle is about about 6 inches long so you can use it as a measuring stick. Once rolled up apply each of the twist ties that came with your Rx rope near each handle and twist to lock them in. Then lay the handles across the cable and pop it in your Rx bag.Show your Rx rope love and it will love you back for many wods to come.

l am on the cusp of 2 sizes, which one should I get?

Our sizing chart goes by your height plus 3 feet which provides plenty of slack. So when on the cusp of 2 lengths we recommend the shorter one.

Grips

Recommendations for washing Alec Smith Grips?

You can use a wire brush. Sometimes the chalk and pressure will matte down the hairs and make the palm strap smooth, use a wire brush to de-matte.

Do not submerge in water as this will tarnish/weather the leather.

We recommend laying out flat in the sun to get rid of smell, or taking a damp cloth and lightly rubbing the palm strap, but there are no set recommendations for washing leather.

My grips ripped, can I get a replacement?

2 answers:

1) if its within a few uses from the purchase. Please send us a picture.

2) if it’s been over 3 months, we do not replace. Grips will wear down. Chalk and storage with moisture can soften leather and cause them to rip.
